The Directorate of Gender Studies Participates in British Council / ANIE project

The Directorate of Gender Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, represents Nigeria in the British Council - African Network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE) project on: Higher Education Gender Analyisis for Sub-Sahara Africa. This is a multi-country study involving Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. The project leader and coordinator is Dr. James Otieno  Jowi from ANIE, Kenya while the .Director Gender Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe Uniersity, Awka is the leader of Nigeria component of the study.

 

Among the aims of the study is to produce a Sub-Saharan Africa regional analysis of gender inequality issues focusing on barriers and challenges faced by students and graduates, particularly women and girls in accessing and participating in employability and entrepreneurship related opportunities. The study which spans from October 2023 to May 2024 involves desk review/literature review and data collection from 10 strategically selected universities from each country. In Nigeria the following uniersities are participating in the study:

 

(1) Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute (with Health and Agriculture (PAULESI), Ibadan,

(2) Lagos Business School,

(3) University of Benin (Federal),

(4) University of Medical Sciences, (UNIMED) Ondo State owned,

(5) Coal City University, Enugu, Nigeria (Private),

(6) Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu (Private, Catholic Institution, Church),

(7) Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (Federal),

(8) University of Port Harcourt (Federal),

(9) Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode (State), and

(10) Paul University (Private Anglican Communion Institution, Church).

These universities were selected based on criteria presented by the British Council.
